This week’s fruit is perhaps on you have already heard of, its English name is Guava derived from the Arawakan “guayabo”. It is a tropical fruit about as big as a mango and yellow-green in color with a pink and soft inside.
The taste of this fruit is hard to describe, it’s rather sweet maybe somewhere between strawberry and mango. The texture though, is very grainy like sand.
Apparently, a guayaba has 3 times as much Vitamin C as an orange and all kinds of nutritional value.
I kind of have a love/hate relationship with guayaba. There was a tree near the house I lived in Texas that grew many guayabas. We had so much guayaba at times that we had to freeze it. I remember there was a particular month that I probably drank guayaba juice every day and then my mom tried to spice things up by making a dessert.
